@joequant You are enmeshed in it. That's why you like the Kennedy quote along Xi's. Patriotism as an ideology makes you feel warm. That's why you can't question it.
@joequant I'm aware. But this is politics (long view, diff tools). I have a model that actually explains (wrongly or correctly), you just say, let's avoid mess, it's patriotic.
@joequant no, its bc they are afraid of american capital taking over
or at least chinese banks taking over from the national bureaucratic ruling class (like in the EU and Frankfurt).
@joequant are you really that daft? starvation is an allegory for basic needs. They work for food,energy,housing and to help their parents in their retirement. their children will do the same bc no serious chinese pension plan. say sth patriotic abt this.
@joequant Similarly, you'll understand why they fight corruption. The ruling class is fighting financialization bc if they merge w/ banks they will lose the country 1st to them and -maybe- to the American financial capital (this was more sure a decade ago.) So, its abt power and propaganda
@joequant Chinese try to fight corruption, yes. But if you take the Marx pill there's no patriotism w/o speaking abt classes.
The workers work for money, not bc they were asked. I f they don't, they starve.
@joequant When Diogenes went to Olympia and observed some young Rhodians dressed very finely, he laughed and said “That is vanity.” When at the same time he came upon some Spartans in poorly made and filthy coats, he said, “This is a different kind of vanity.”
they are both propaganda...
It's time to talk about Turkey.
Turkey pursues a policy we could characterize as one of "Machiavellian sovereignty". On the one hand, and unlike servile entities like Greece & Cyprus, it safeguards its right to pursue its own national interests autonomously. On the other hand, 1/
@NikolaCosmi@GeorgiosRigas Please do explain.
Obviously the greek crisis created outcomes, that Israel exploits but it is well documented -even when actors like Tsipras,Varoufakis differ - that US applied no pressure to "help" Greece against Germany. In fact they treated MoMs as internal 🇪🇺 matter.
@NikolaCosmi@GeorgiosRigas in 2010 in his books as part of a realignment with USA and as he foresaw a decline in the Arab World. I like Kotzias for Prespes but hate him for the Isareli plan. But noone put a gun in our head, it was a Greek initiative that Americans loved and supported. 2/3
@rizikaoikonomik@bernajurema@zei_squirrel@yanisvaroufakis how so? genuinely, this is a nothingburger. He says they are antimperialist and the only supportive state for Palestinians. Does anyone expect a hagiography of a theocratic torturous regime?
@rogerkoza@BuelvasJes I think the symbolic reason is clear. We focus on the mother and Hamnet. The father being close but with his back turned to the children accentuates it.
