We are increasingly seeing assessments by analysts, including European and now American ones, that Russia has lost the war. And the end of the war is near.
The reason for this is the direct interpretation of the events by the Ukrainian and European information space, which is full of mentions of successes on the battlefield and strikes on Russian logistics and critical infrastructure. The media focuses on tactical achievements, and this is natural.

A day of whiplash at the @nato summit in Ankara:
-@potus says the war with Iran will not restart, after declaring the Iran ceasefire dead;
- participants tell me the closed door NAC Leaders meeting went very well, as @potus listened and expressed “love” in the room, but only after senior officials tell me his say Greenland comments will make a US-Denmark-Greenland deal less likely.
And there remains deep concern the US will coordinate with allies as NATO transitions to be more European.

At the direction of the Commander in Chief, U.S. Central Command forces have started conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway.
Full @SecGenNATO@POTUS exchange on Greenland:
@SecGenNATO: "And on Greenland, you and I made a deal in Davos, I will make sure that that deal is step by step being implemented. That you can deploy, if you want, the Golden Dome on Greenland, you have your trilateral talks–@SecRubio is leading them from your side, with the Greenlanders and the Danes. And it comes to, if they would change their constitutional position of the Kingdom, etc.– But hey–"
@POTUS: "Greenland is very important for the United States, but it's not important for Denmark. In fact, when Denmark was overrun by the Nazis in less than one day, Hitler beat them out in one day. They asked us to take care of Greenland. In fact, we took Greenland, and then stupidly we gave it back. We shouldn't have given it back to them, because we're the ones that need it. We need it for the protection of the world, not just the United States."
The exchanges of fire between the US and Iran further complicate already fraught talks to end the war. Iran’s attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait are unacceptable.
Under the memorandum, Tehran committed to reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Its recent attacks on ships near the Strait violate that commitment and threaten to disrupt the resumption of energy supplies. Freedom of navigation must be unimpeded.
Next Monday, EU Foreign Ministers will meet with their Gulf counterparts to discuss how we can work together to support the implementation of the agreement and preserve freedom of navigation in the Strait as well as the Red Sea.
Bipartisan Congressional delegation to @NATO Summit sounds bullish on the Trump Administration bringing Turkey back into the F-35 program:
@RepMikeTurner: "The details that we have--that have been shared with us, that it does appear to be promising."
@SenatorShaheen: "If there is an acceptable way to deal with the S400 and the threat that that poses to the technology in the F35, and there is satisfactory agreement on the part of all parties about that, then I think having Turkey back in the F-35 program would be a positive development, both for Türkiye and for the United States. But we still have questions to answer with respect to what's being proposed, and we haven't gotten those answers. So we will wait and see what happens."
@MikeRounds: "Türkiye is a major NATO contributor, and anything that we can do to provide them with the resources to be an even stronger adversary with regard incursions by Russia in Europe, the better off we all are. And one of those is to have that tool, of the F-35."
.@POTUS on whether talks with Iran will resume: "They can talk but I think they're wasting their time. They're a bunch of liars.... They're liars, they're cheats, they're sick people."
New U.S. strikes on Iran come against the backdrop of the NATO summit in Turkey, where leaders are hoping to strengthen Europe's ability to defend itself.
President Trump brought his long-standing criticism of European countries, once again expressing frustration over their defense spending and refusal to support the U.S. and Israeli war in Iran.
@nickschifrin reports.
U.S. Central Command forces have begun launching a series of powerful strikes against Iran to impose heavy costs for targeting and attacking commercial shipping crewed by innocent civilians in an international waterway. The U.S. strikes are in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s demonstrated aggression was unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire.
President Trump and his NATO counterparts are gathering in Turkey for a summit that comes at a turning point in the organization’s history as the United States steps back from its traditional security role in Europe.

The scale of destruction and suffering in Venezuela is overwhelming. But that is no reason to stand on the sidelines. @WCKitchen We can take the small steps to help: meals for the rescue teams, sandwiches for the families, conversations with the people doing the hard work. To share the message: the world stands with you. #ChefsForVenezuela
