💊Ahead of our Pharmacy and General Practice conference this weekend in Birmingham, we have joined forces with the @rcgp as well as @PancreaticCanUK, @cftrust and @epilepsysociety to make clear to government the scale of challenges posed by severe shortages of medicines.
🗞️ Catch coverage in today's @thetimes, @guardian, @DailyMirror, @Telegraph and @Telegraph of our calls on government to enable greater flexibility for pharmacists to make substitutions to prescriptions and to convene an urgent taskforce to grip this complex issue.
We share our latest recap at our Women in Pharmacy event at the House of Lords last week.
🌹 We celebrated women's role in pharmacy in all four nations of the UK, joined by incredible women including the only woman pharmacist and MP @TaiwoOwatemi Owatemi, @PreetKGillMP , Minister for Health Innovation and Safety and our very own NPA Vice Chair @SukhiBasra1 - the first ever female Vice-Chair at the NPA in its 105 year history.
We were proud to celebrate the remarkable women in pharmacy whose dedication and expertise make a difference in communities across the nation every day.

Celebrating women in Pharmacy 🌹
Yesterday we had the privilege of hosting our Women in Pharmacy event at the House of Comms.
🌹Over 60 female community pharmacists came together yesterday afternoon to celebrate their contributions working in neighbourhoods.
🌹Our members heard from NPA Chair Olivier Picard, Vice-Chairwoman Sukhi Basra
🌹Taiwo Owatemi called for women to network and support each other and spoke of her experience being the only female pharmacist.
🌹Parliamentarian, Minister @PreetKGillMP Kaur Gill spoke about the government’s ambition to support women’s health
🌹It was an intimate and touching event, with small details such as roses being given to women, to reflect their incredible achievements in healthcare
Thank you to Baroness Redfern for hosting us and to everyone who attended from across the country and the NPA will continue to support women in community pharmacy and to push for more female representation in pharmacy leadership roles.

@A_Dan_Rainbow A professional rugby player trying to punch the vice-captain of the England cricket team in the face on a night out is pretty newsworthy I am afraid.
There is one academy player who plays regular first team rugby for us that it would be very newsworthy indeed if it were him
We're grateful for MPs, including to @RachelGilmourLD , @drlukeevans and @SadikAlHassanMP who debated the impact of pharmacy closures and cuts to opening hours has had on patients across the country and for raising these issues directly with the Pharmacy Minister.
Although last week's funding announcement was a step forward, we are clear that serious challenges still remain and more must be done to start to close the £2.5 billion facing gap and reform our broken contract if we are to bring an end to the blight of pharmacy closures.
💸"Although this points in the right direction we remain concerned that it does very little to close the £2.5bn funding gap that the NHS itself identified a year ago,"
@OlivierPicardUK NPA Chair told @BBCHughPym this morning
📺 “There is no point putting more money into a system that is broken.”
NPA board member @ashleydcohen tells @BBCBreakfast that today’s announcement is a ‘good start’ but we want to meet with ministers urgently to discuss the need to reform our contract
This morning, the announcement has been made for the Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) for 2026/7.
“The deal means that most pharmacies can probably limp along for another year, but sadly there may well be more closures.”
Although this is a step forward, “much more will be needed to transform community pharmacy”.
NPA Chair, Olivier Picard shares our immediate reaction to what the funding announcement means to pharmacies across the UK and what we need to do now “to get rid of the deeply unfair process that every year hands Government all the cards.”
We’re to support you – we’re with you every step of the way and we want to hear from you about the way ahead.

Pharmacies have been on the front line supporting concerned families with MenB vaccinations in light of tragic outbreaks.
It's clear there's a potential gap in our vaccination strategy and the JCVI should urgently decide whether this should be extended to teenagers and young adults
@OlivierPicardUK@bbcsoutheast
NPA Chair @OlivierPicardUK spoke to @SkyNews about the tragic MenB outbreak near to his pharmacies in Berkshire and the huge spike in demand for vaccination
Pharmacies in the area have already seen a very significant increase in demand for vaccination against MenB from worried parents.
The JCVI should urgently publish its recommendations as to whether this vaccine should be extended to teenagers and young adults
@OlivierPicardUK
It would be very damaging to the pharmacy network if political uncertainty was to delay a financial settlement which is already hopelessly late.

NPA Board Member for Scotland Sehar Shahid appeared on @bbc5live last night to discuss recent studies that Orforglipron helps to sustain weight loss after a patient finishes GLP-1 treatments.
She made clear that we want to see the skills and expertise of pharmacies utilised by the NHS to help expand the use of weight loss treatment to those in most clinical need.
‘Bracing for the worst and hoping for the best’
NPA Chair Olivier Picard talks to The Pharamacist about the financial pressures facing contractors, and why he fears the NHS is failing to make full use of community pharmacies.
