New Year. New project.
I've started blogging at https://t.co/ryqHdQSb9O
It's a work in progress, but will be looking at case studies, theorists, ideas - the works.
Teacher or student - check it out

Hit me up English Teachers!
I'm looking up possible trips for A Level - both Literature and Language course. Has anyone done any really worthwhile trips with their English KS5 cohorts?

Before the 10-hour day Factories Act of 1847, employees could commonly work 14-16 hour days. If Bob Cratchit was that unfortunate, he could well be on as little as 95p an hour in modern terms.
In An Inspector Calls, Eric steals £50 from Birling to give to Eva Smith.
My students seem non-plussed by this until I show them this.
With current inflation, Eric has stolen £4,787.
Not government PPE scandal amounts, grant you, but still a significant amount.

Likewise, I keep seeing comments that Bob Cratchit would have been above minimum wage today.
The Bank of England Inflation Calculator begs to differ.
Bob would be on £79.88 a week. That's £13.31 a day (using the common 6-day working week of the time).

You got to wonder if a sport is really all that entertaining if I can walk away from it, come back eighty minutes later and find...
Absolutely... Nothing... has...changed...

The Eagle has Landed, Don't Look Now, The First Great Train Robbery, The Dirty Dozen, JFK: some of my favourite films were truly built on the back of the wonderful #DonaldSutherland . He will be missed.
Saw that #NoamChomsky was trending and had a moment of sheer joy as I thought the level of discourse on this platform had upped. I'm sad to discover that he died.
I was literally talking about him with my A Level group today. Sad times.

This is an actual quote from the headteacher: "We lost a lot of people in Covid… a lot of our parents, their businesses have not recovered. So a lot of them have left and gone to state schools. Then we had the interest rates, energy bills and all of that."
@Miss_Jarvis_Eng @EngLangBlog Ditto - so many kids are turned off by the GCSE. We're literally doing a Language rally next year to drum up some more interest
I really want an A Level Language student to do an NEA on Trump's daily post-trial media speeches. I think it would be quite an interesting topic.

‘Every year they have held back pay decisions to the very last minute like a badly organised sixth former with an essay deadline,’ says trust CEO @JonnyUttley of news that the government’s teacher pay decision will be confirmed post-election

I'm finding it hard to distinguish conversations I have with my 3yo from interviews with politicians:
Me: Do you need the toilet?
3yo: I think I want the Elsa dress.
Me: That's lovely but do you need the toilet?
3yo: Listen, can you hear that noise?
