@DDuggan21 IMO I can’t see the incentive. Even if the Giants are good next year he’s not going to have any leverage. They’d just be able to sign him on similar terms. If they’re even average, he’s out and you save on paying out on a multi-year contract.
@JackAngelo74@Anthony_Rivardo Ordinarily I would agree but keeping Schoen demonstrates how desperate they are to maintain stability.
Fans are not going to give McCarthy any time. He would not get a season of grace like others would and I think that will be in the minds of those making decisions.
@KSIXI In this instance the Browns would have extracted more value (JJ value chart) from trading back from #2-5 for a non QB in 25 than the Giants would get for trading back from #1-5 for a QB in 26.
They could and should be getting more.
@art_stapleton It’s an assumption based on a very high probability though.
When was the last time a statistically strong first year QB got drafted over?
Even when it happened to Rosen, that was a pretty big surprise.
@art_stapleton@northjersey The new GM/ HC would take the job in large part because of Dart.
How many young high potential QB's are there in this league? 5 max? You don't just get rid of those players.
@RalphVacchiano@NFLonFOX Every team in the league has a few good players, that does not make them winning teams.
It's JS's inability to build a roster around those players that means we are 2-10.
Why do you think this is suddenly going to improve? Look at the most recent FA class.
@RalphVacchiano It's an assumption based on ownerships most recent behaviour which was to keep BD/ JS together for multiple yrs despite having an bad record.
We have Dart on the cheap for 4 yrs, he needs stability in that time. IMO that does not come from hoping a GM drastically improves.
@RalphVacchiano No, the last 4 years tells us that they would get time.
They've got the 4th worst record in the NFL since they got hired and both have had ample time.
A new GM/HC that are even middle of the pack would get plenty.
@RalphVacchiano Because you'd be hiring 2 new people with a lot of leeway and job security.
You'd have to give the partnership time in the way that Schoen and Daboll have had over the last 4 yrs?
Whereas if Joe stays, he has to win. You can't keep him if they have another really poor year.
@RalphVacchiano Because the runway for the next coach/GM partnership is longer.
Reese continued to be bad, McAdoo paid the price in a year and half. Gettleman continued to be bad, Judge paid the price after two years.
Schoen continues to be bad, insert coach gets a very short leash.
@RalphVacchiano@NFLonFOX The fact that ownership has not hired well over the last 10 years is the only reason the Giants are 53-106-1. Not the lack of stability.
@JeffGoldklang@DDuggan21 I totally understand and the game management has been awful.
You and I can spin it anyway but as Bill Parcels put it “You are what your record says you are". Baring major upsets, at the week 14 bye there is every chance we have the worst record in the NFL. That is on JS.
@JeffGoldklang@DDuggan21 Jeff, the team is 2-8 and will be 2-11 after this stretch.
You mention a few individuals but It's a 53 man roster. No one wins any prizes for finding a few great players. We need a team armed with enough depth to win games consistently.
He has failed to do that for 3 yrs.
@DDuggan21 59–114–1 since 2015, the second-worst record in the NFL, just one game ahead of the Jets.
This ownership group can’t seem to get out of its own way, repeatedly making the same mistakes.
Once again, the Emperor has new clothes and John Mara insists he cares about winning.
@BobbySkinner_ 'Good young nucleus of talent' ....
If I were the GM and had six first-round picks in four drafts — four of them in the top seven — I’d probably have formed a roster with a few decent young players too!
