It's @VolunteersWeek and we have some exciting news!
The Ryedale Festival has been nominated for the #KingsAwardforVoluntaryService This is the highest award that a voluntary group in the UK can attain and is described as being the equivalent of an MBE.
The nomination has been made in recognition of the very significant role played by our wonderful volunteers. Around 100 volunteers support the work of the Festival each year, contributing thousands of hours in a very wide range of activities including stewarding, artist hosting, transport, parking, production and distribution of marketing materials, refreshments and bar service. In addition, the trustees provide essential governance and financial oversight.
It is a rigorous selection process and only the very best of the nominated groups from across the UK will be successful in attaining the award (typically less than half the number of nominated groups).
Our volunteers play a vital part, not only in enabling the @ryedalefestival to take place but also in ensuring the friendly, professional service that all our artists and audience members experience. Whatever the outcome when the winners are announced on 14th November, it is considered an honour to be nominated for the award and it is a source of great pride for the Ryedale Festival.

We are so thrilled to have the Van Baerle Trio returning to Ryedale this summer - and this time as Artists in Residence, with plenty of opportunities to catch them!
In their four concerts the trio will unfold two musical stories side-by-side with Brahms and Shostakovich, composers who both turned to the past to find ways of speaking to the present. Different in voice and circumstance, they were united by a shared belief that tradition is not something to be preserved, but something to be remade. With pre-concert talks by writer and broadcaster Stephen Johnson.

Imogen Whitehead - a trumpeter of commanding technique and deep musicality - joins us as Artist in Residence for this summer’s Festival.
Imogen’s six residency events take place between 11 and 20 July in venues right across North Yorkshire: Ampleforth, Coxwold, South Dalton, Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside and Norton.
She’ll be appearing as guest soloist with @KirkbyBand and offering her valuable insights in a free Brass Masterclass @helmsleyarts. At @visitampleforth she'll be heard in collaboration with the Abbey’s magnificent organ and in Coxwold and South Dalton Imogen will perform alongside the harp in two intimate coffee concerts.
At the centre of her residency is a new Flugelhorn Concerto by Gabriel Jackson, one of Britain’s most popular composers, co-commissioned by the Festival and receiving its World Premiere this summer at @StPetersNorton with the brilliant Royal @liverpoolphil under Charlotte Corderoy, 2025 Critics' Circle Awards 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳.

Join @TheGesualdoSix on their 𝘊𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘺 this summer across North Yorkshire... and across their extensive repertoire!
As Artists in Residence they will perform music that spans nearly a thousand years in four distinctive and atmospheric churches. From the seaside majesty of Bridlington Priory, with its awe-inspiring stained glass windows, to the beautiful hilltop setting of St Mary’s, Richmond, overlooking the Swale valley, as well as further concerts in York and Norton-on-Derwent, these programmes explore the extraordinary expressive range of the human voice.
Their repertoire stretches from Hildegard von Bingen, Tallis and Weelkes to Stanford and Schubert, and on to the voices of our own time, from folksong to James MacMillan.
Don't miss this incredible vocal ensemble as they tour North Yorkshire this July!
