New study with @NilsTokolosh. Based on experiments in three controversies, we show that an attitudinal polarization of trust in science can be mitigated when scientists adopt the styles of honest brokers versus that of epistocrats when giving public policy advice, i.e.... (1/2).
@brossardd Indeed! The link didn't work for me, though, so I am linking the paper again here, in case others have the same issue: https://t.co/J16jrl6iR8
In @ISSUESinST, @elhowell23@scicommlab & I reflect on the Societal Experts Action Network (SEAN) that united funders, academics, & community leaders during the pandemic. We need continued support for #civicscience collabs like this, even outside of crisis https://t.co/m7b8VggTyk
Thank you to @KLAkerlof for the invitation to speak on Mon w/a bright group of @georgemasonU grad students about the need to approach research & action on #misinformation w/nuance re: conceptualization, operationalization, & goals. The Q&A was fantastic!🎉
@WildlifeBioGal …if that is true, then one way to get broader coalitions of ppl engaged in efforts to mitigate societal conflicts re: science would be to presume the legitimacy of their hesitancy or even opposition to doing so & find a common framing that still serves the desired outcome 7/7.
@WildlifeBioGal …so, speculatively, I will offer that some ppl “in the middle” may hesitate to join a cause that is characterized in terms that don’t resonate. e.g., to them, these conflicts may not be about sci support vs denial, but about power / policy / dignity / visions of the future…6/7.
If you missed @UW_LSC talk by @nicky_krause on how anti-science discourse limits research and action on science polarization, it is available online! Check it out! https://t.co/PdxYbat2wQ
Thanks @UW_LSC for inviting me to speak at the colloquium today! I appreciated the thoughtful questions & the discussion about #polarization as it relates to #science and #scicomm. Plus, after attending this series many times as a student, it was fun to be on the other side :)
Kicking off our #scicomm series in @UW_LSC, @nicky_krause is explaining how anti-science discourse limits research and action on science polarization. Follow along! #uwlsc700

Excited to start my new research position here at @UWMadison, working with such a talented crew to understand and address #polarization related to science. Big thanks to @templeton_fdn and to my colleagues in @UW_LSC!
LSC Professors @scheufele and @brossardd were awarded $1.5 million from the @templeton_fdn to research more effective ways of facilitating cooperation and compromise across diverse societal stakeholders, especially in the context of controversial science. https://t.co/6OtZV5b4rI
