Over a month later, I've determined that this fucked up aspect is likely fannon within the particular brand of fics I was reading. I have also determined that there is a lot that is actually fucked up in cannon, just not this. The hyperfixation has a strong hold at this point

I have fallen down a massive rabbit hole of fanfics in a fandom I am in no way a part of, I know next to nothing about the source material, but it's two hours in and its like a web that I just have to keep unravelling, but it just keeps going (can you tell I'm tired rn?)

Update: the rabbit hole won, and I will now be watching the show, and subsequently figuring out if the one fucked up aspect of the rabbit hole was cannon or fannon (idk if it's worse if it's fannon or cannon, but I'll find out if)
