The idea that liking manga or anime is childish is, at this point, the childish way of thinking.
That said, I do generally agree with the idea that anime and manga are entertainment for children. After all, many of the manga that get adapted into anime are originally published in magazines aimed at young boys.
But whether enjoying anime or manga is childish depends on how deeply you look at them.
A lot of modern works today don’t just stand alongside dramas and films. Some of them even go beyond them, containing themes that make you think deeply about philosophy, life, and how we should live.
If you think about those themes seriously and apply them to your own life, then in a way, that is more mature than many adults who simply watch movies or read books without really reflecting on them.
And even if you simply enjoy anime or manga like a child, with your mind completely empty, I don’t think that is childish either. For adults who are constantly chased by work, that kind of time can be an important way to recharge and keep going.
Besides, there are plenty of adults who don’t read manga or watch anime at all, but are still childish.
