Lançamos hoje, em Belém, uma iniciativa inédita: o Fundo de Florestas Tropicais para Sempre (TFFF). Pela primeira vez na história os países do Sul Global terão protagonismo em uma agenda de florestas.

As florestas tropicais cumprem uma função essencial para o enfrentamento à mudança climática. Elas retêm carbono, garantem fluxos hídricos e protegem a biodiversidade. Sem elas não temos água para beber e para plantar.

Quando a destruição das florestas atingir pontos irreversíveis, os efeitos serão sentidos nos quatro cantos do mundo. As florestas valem mais em pé do que derrubadas, e deveriam integrar o PIB dos nossos países.

Os serviços ecossistêmicos que as florestas prestam para a humanidade precisam ser remunerados, assim como as pessoas que protegem as florestas.

Os fundos verdes e climáticos internacionais não estão à altura dos desafios que a mudança climática nos coloca. Foi com esse senso de urgência que, desde a COP28, reunimos um grupo de países de florestas tropicais e países investidores para desenhar esse mecanismo.

Contamos com o apoio de organizações internacionais e o da sociedade civil.
