Tu étais maudit en sélection, on regrettait pour ta carrière que tu n’aies pas choisi l’Espagne.

Mais le 11 juillet 2021 tout a changé, puis un an et demi plus tard tu nous as offert ce qu’on rêvait tous : te voir soulever le graal.

Après la Copa 2024 on se disait que c’était bon, tu pouvais partir en paix mais tu as quand même voulu participer à cette ultime Cdm.

Pendant 1 mois tu nous a fait rêver et ce soir tu pouvais finir tout ce chapitre de la plus belle manière possible.

Je ne connais pas vraiment ta vie, mais je n’oublierai jamais ce que tu as apporté à la mienne.

Depuis mon premier vrai souvenir de toi (ton triplé à 19 ans contre le Real), j’ai perdu le compte des lendemains de match où je suis allé à l’école, puis à l’université, puis au travail, le sourire aux lèvres grâce à tes exploits.

Souvent j’ai suivi les matches en t’observant attentivement même quand tu n’avais pas le ballon (désolé Busi). Tes déplacements, ta façon de te connecter au jeu en 1/4 de seconde, m’ont ouvert les yeux sur les possibilités infinies du jeu.

À l’aube de tes 35 ans, tu as réussi l’impossible : entrer dans le cœur des Argentins, même de ceux qui avaient grandi avec l’émotion incarnée qu’on appelle Maradona. C’était ce qui comptait le plus pour toi. Et tu l’as fait.

Bravo. Ton empreinte restera éternelle.

Au fond, ce que je garderai de toi, ce n’est même pas ton talent et encore moins tes stats, pourtant sans égal, car personne ne respecte le ballon comme toi et il te l’a magnifiquement rendu.

Ce que je retiens, c’est tout ce que tu m’auras fait vivre, année après année. Les frissons, les déceptions, ton sens du collectif, ta rédemption argentine, ton incompréhensible mais touchante fragilité sur péno… tout cela restera avec moi, à vie.

J’ai hâte de raconter tout ça à mes enfants.
