O is also for one, as in one wife. What does one wife really mean? Monty Judah thinks St. Paul means one wife at a time, but Jesus said in today's Gospel reading (if u were observing the Memorial of Saint Maximilian Colby), "What God has joined together, man must not separate."
Speaking of omitted thirds to ALL the harmony loving Lutherans, doesn't the harmony sound a bit hollow if you leave the third out? Hollow not as in whole or holy, but empty. I suppose if it is implied, it might not so much, but if you leave out the third in an ordination liturgy?
Rishon (ראשון) is the Hebrew day that corresponds with Sunday. Its root is Rosh (ראש) which means head. Yeshua (ישוע a.k.a. Jesus) is Head of the Church, so Happy Rosh Chodesh Elul! In the Old Testament the beginnings of the years and months were sanctified, so why not the week?
Pope Leo reflected on the liturgical year in his Wednesday General Audience, explaining that it is "not a static representation of past events, but an encounter with Christ himself." Sunday "is the core of the liturgical year," which "foreshadows Christ’s second coming, when we will all rise again."
O is also for omitted. I witnessed a seemingly Lutheran ordination in Diamond Heights just before our week of years exile from West Portal Lutheran. For some reason, the third was omitted. The pastoral candidate was qualified, but his supervisor had divorced and remarried.
O is also for Ordination and Order. "Third. After this the ordinator shall ascend the step of the predella and facing the ordinance shall recite with a clear voice 1 Timothy 3." -Martin Luther in Liturgy and Hymns. Every Church looking for a pastor should read this frequently.
O is also for overseer. In a letter to Saint Timothy, Saint Paul outlined qualifications for overseers in the Church. What is most interesting is that an overseer is expected to know how to manage their own families before becoming overseers. https://t.co/dHemzejGjj
Rather than pick on Mr. Harris for his pro-abortion leanings which is where many people start in their faith, I wonder if Mr. Mahoney could say more about Mr. Harris' thoughts in regard to the Creed and New Testament.
I do wonder if William Mahoney is jumping to conclusions about Alec Harris' Jewishness. There are a lot of Jewish believers who can probably see what many Catholics ignorantly take at face value because they haven't been exposed enough to recognize Hebrew in Latin translation.
I've had mixed feelings about Oregon Catholic Press. The attached screenshot highlights what I've seen. It's a lengthy article investigating far more than I wanted to know or pass on, which is another reason for the screenshot quote. https://t.co/jS576aNAWD
@SpareTheAir@Caltrain I've ridden the Capitol Corridor, but I missed the old trains on my way through San Jose last year because they had much better luggage space. I use the trains to get to Watsonville. I use to use CalT quite a bit more until my parents moved, but Dad moved again after Mom passed.
Old facts. It isn't new anymore, so I'm not calling it new. Is it common knowledge? It's an interesting coincidence in regard to my last post. However, I wonder how many Church folk might overcome a lukewarm response if they realize who else has quit Zoom. https://t.co/kcA7ZiruXB
O is often found in pairs. Here it is wanting to appear helpful, but consider how the top "service" number compares with Revelation 13:18. I've already pointed this out to a couple of Church groups. For the time being, I've minimized my own interactions involving the company.
Yesterday, while reading a Deutsche Welle article and video about the Kocherlball, I was reminded of Oakland Nature Friends and the Schuhplattler dancers. The Fahlmans hiked up to Mass/picnic like people did in the old days, but I was clueless about that. https://t.co/V3sEkVHNbe
In literate cultures like what we have in the U.S.A., more people should be graduating from mere Rosaries to praying the Psalms which are a large part of the Daily Prayer Offices.
The Rosary is the pre-school for praying the Daily Offices. It was first taught to illiterate peasants who wanted to be able to chant like the monks, that's why it gets taught to children and new believers first. You don't even need beads. You can use your fingers!
Rather than tell your Bible Study Group you won't be meeting nxt week when you have plans to go out of town, consider it an opportunity to test their commitment by educating them about a prayer office. BB, GnP, LW, LBW, EG, ELW have short n long daily prayer formats lay can lead.
O is for Office, as in Daily Prayer Office. When I'm tired, upset or don't feel like reading the bible and haven't fully realized what I need to pray about, Sing the Hours is ONE of several online resources we use at home. whathttps://youtu.be/lAYH4sBIapQ?is=m2Krjz-3uuTFp4an
Today is “Sea Sunday.” My thoughts go out to all sailors, fishermen and port workers around the world who, though marked by separation from their loved ones and sometimes by fear of the conflicts occur on the seas, sustain trade and the lives of many peoples through their patient and quiet labor.
N is also for None, noon and nothing. Don't assume nothing happens at noon. Once upon a time, noon was all about None except around 3 p.m. https://t.co/QaLPtYI9hy
N is also for normal. Just because something or some action is common doesn't mean it is normal. Legalizing something common doesn't make it normal either. If two wrongs don't make a right, neither do 10 wrongs, etc. We should be careful refering to commonalities as normal.
