@RutgersAltRoute A5 due to the pandemic, the biggest challenge I face for students' mindsets is they give up when something becomes challenging. During remote learning, they didn't have anyone pushing them along, they could log off their screen when they wanted to stop. #altrted#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A4: I try to give feedback ASAP. After lesson day, the next day I immediately give a check for understanding and pull small groups to fix mistakes before they continue with their independent practice. I think timing on feedback is important for #math#altrted#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A3: I like to encourage questions and mistakes. When a student makes a mistake in front of the class, I try not to single them out and take it as an opportunity to show a common mistake. we all make mistakes and grow from them #altrted#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A2: teachers should present lessons with starting on things students already know, then building off of their knowledge to keep students confident. Teachers should give positive feedback when correcting a student's work #altrted#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A1: if students/teachers are in a negative mindset, they are more likely to fail. if they are in a positive mindset, they will subconsciously put more effort into their work #altrted#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A5: schools should consider presenting professional development opportunities to admin and faculty/staff for strategies to tackle unwanted behavior, and create a school-wide policy so everyone is consistent and on the same page #altrted#sped
@RutgersAltRoute Q4 taking breaks and allowing students to step away from the screen can help. maybe encourage them to take a quick five minute break by stretching outside or moving around their house #sped#altrted
@RutgersAltRoute A3 you can follow along their 504 plans and take frequent breaks, use kinesthetic learning techniques, use positive reinforcement, help with organization #sped#altrted
@RutgersAltRoute A2: one way to help #sped students learn to self advocate is encourage them to ask questions and be confident to ask questions #altrted
@RutgersAltRoute A1: a challenge would be not all of the accommodations need to be done for other students, but luckily as a first year teacher and as a BSI teacher, my co-teacher helps guide and direct me #altrted#sped
@RutgersAltRoute A5: I always want to be a person students feel they can talk to and feel safe talking to, but if there is bullying, I would report it to our school's HIB coordinator to stop the bully before it goes too far
@RutgersAltRoute A4: it could cause distraction from learning in the classroom. If a student is uncomfortable or feels unsafe, they're not going to be able to concentrate well in my class.
@RutgersAltRoute A3: every other day we have a dept. meeting to touch base with anything going on - curriculum, students, school in general. I also keep a good relationship w/ guidance. I keep in touch w/ parents on canvas and/or email/phone calls
@RutgersAltRoute A2: I think it's important to get to know your students on a personal level so that you can see any signs if there is bullying or harassment going on. It's easier to spot if you know the students.
@RutgersAltRoute A1: I always emphasize kindness and respect in my classroom-towards peers and towards staff. Any kind of rudeness or disrespect is not tolerated and I am very strict about it.
@RutgersAltRoute I reach parents/families through the Inbox feature on Canvas. If I need to send students anything as a group, I post an Announcement and make it available to observers as well to [hopefully] avoid students missing anything #AltRtEd#EdTech
@RutgersAltRoute Some benefits are students enjoy tech activities and are quick to jump in. A challenge is keeping students on task and any IT/wifi issues. I've learned you always need a backup plan, just incase there's an outage. #AltRtEd#EdTech
@RutgersAltRoute I collaborate with other math teachers in my school by creating different Quizizzes and sharing them with each other. We have also shared review Jeopardy games and online Bingo games #AltRtEd#EdTech
