I finally understood the powers of words when my mother herself became a patient. I didn’t want to hear anything about “fights”, “battles”, “war”. I just wanted her to feel at peace during the process.
Saying that a disease is a battle field implies that someone may lose.

Having cancer is hard enough. The words we use shouldn’t make it harder.
While the battle analogies may energize some patients, for many others they lead to blame and shame.
💬 Viewpoint: Mass abstract submissions in #MedEd have led to inflated metrics, less meaningful research, and misaligned incentives for trainees and institutions.

I think of this whenever I see a trainee post about having 10+ abstracts accepted to a single conference. To me, that many abstracts is almost always a red flag. Research for the sole purpose of publication or CV padding without actually aiming to advance science is a travesty.
Dear med students:
Hold the hand of the patient who needs you. Sit down. Lean in. Be present. Trust your instincts, even when those around you don't understand or respond in the same way.
This skill may have been trained out of them years ago, but hold onto it with both hands.
If you’re facing burnout today, remember this:
You are not defective. You are not inefficient. You do not lack resilience. You’ve been asked to do more than a human being can do, while being taught to equate your self-worth with exhaustion and productivity.
This is not normal.
Nanette Wenger, MD: A Trailblazer in Cardiology at the ACC 75th anniversary gala🫀👩⚕️#ACC25@ACCinTouch
Dr. Nanette Wenger revolutionized the way we understand heart disease in women. For decades, she fought against the myth that heart disease was a “man’s disease.” Let’s dive into her incredible impact. 🧵👇 #MedTwitter #Cardiology
A monumental day for the #ATTR#amyloidosis field: #Vutrisiran is now FDA approved for ATTR-CM! The landmark #HELIOS-B trial hit 10/10 prespecified endpoints including improved all-cause mortality. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the development/approval, and a special thanks to all of the patients who participated in the clinical trials. This is how #sciencemovesforward! 🍾https://t.co/9r69ULYrWn

Thrilled to share the achievement of a personal milestone for me: three abstracts accepted for presentation at ESC Cardio-Oncology in Italy, one of them as a moderated poster/oral presentation.
So grateful for the opportunity to work with this amazing group! 🦀🫀
Three years ago I lost a patient to cancer.
During the final months, the patient’s family called me so often to help that they said I was officially part of the family
Today I received an invitation to the patient’s oldest child’s high school graduation party🥹
