@aidan_mclau yr+ there was a time when openai was sitting on a sota music gen model for ages until udio and suno came along. sora is another example, and they had gpt-4o for a while before anything was made public
@basedjensen Each lab has very specific flavors of researchers into different subdomains, and it shows in the models you can almost predict what a lab will excel in based on who’s there
The success of software in the last two decades has skewed many people’s perception of progress with AGI, we will probably first see a YouTube with infinite content and immersive AI-powered games, before the arrival of wonder drugs and nanotech.
@ctjlewis UK gov is really adept at making laws broad enough that you can get charged for almost anything if the judge is willing to do the required gymnastics. Like that guy was arrested under the 2014 Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime, and Policing Act.

Anyway, it’s got me thinking about quality, pride, and customer value. Idk I feel like there’s a real shortage of it—not just with my bus company, but with consumer things in general. They’re more expensive and worse idk if corporations are just seeing what they can get away with
Sat here waiting for the bus today—it’s about 40 minutes late. Yesterday, it was about 2 hours late. This is the only bus company in my city, a private company with no competition, so they up-charge. The last 2 years, prices have gone up, and the quality has gotten worse.
