This is Thembelani Zondo, a self-taught guy from South Africa. Since 2023 he's been working on an artificial hand for people who cannot afford one.

In the video — his homemade prototype. It's assembled from wire and available materials, and Zondo himself says that the lack of funding is what's preventing him from replacing the wire with more suitable materials and turning the design into a real medical device.

But the most powerful thing — giving a person back part of the life they lost…

"In my community here in Bergville, there are several people who live with disabilities. Who can't afford it! I saw an opportunity to help my community…" Zondo said.

When you look at this prototype — your heart stops because it's actually possible.

You see a person who had no resources — and built it anyway.
