For what it’s worth, JMac isn’t the only pastor let alone Christian pedaling this “mental illnesses, disorders, and trauma aren’t real” garbage. It’s extremely prevalent.

At my previous church, an older man committed suicide. It was a complete shock to us. I knew he’d struggled with anxiety but it seems like pretty much everyone was blindsided by the news.

The same day word got out, one church member posted publicly on Facebook that he hoped God would “redeem” the deceased man, implying he didn’t think the man already was redeemed.

A few weeks later, he posted, “I don't believe in depression. I refuse to accept it. You can have pain that is uncontrollable. But depression is something you can control. You can have hate and anger but depression is not true. There is no reason to kill yourself especially if you have children.”

Keep in mind, the deceased man’s family can see all this, including his adult children.

I really think that, among these people who deny the reality of mental illness, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and trauma, there is an element of sociopathy. They have no compassion, no sympathy, no mercy, and no capacity to relate on a personal or emotional level with people who are suffering. They also have no humility or concern for how their words or actions might affect others.

My advice? Pray for them, but mark and avoid.
