😆 Well, while I can wrap my mind around the natural laws of cause & effect or as the bible says “whatever one sows, that will he also reap”. However, the beginning part of that same bible verse states “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked...” (Galatians 6:7) and continues with some of my favorite verses I strive to live by:
“For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
Galatians 6:8-10 ESV
Absalom’s death was by selfish defiance on Joab’s part. I have learned & believe vengeance is God’s & His alone. Joab’s consistent ruthlessness in his revenge-driven plans against the king, the one anointed by the God he supposedly serves, reveals his heart…
I shouldn’t have been surprised that that’s what Joab would do 🙈 but I have & always will hope things don’t go so abhorrently 😔 I would not be among the sinless who could cast the “first stones”.
All in all, this was SOO messy all around 😵💫. Amnon defiling his half-sister Tamar.. Absalom avenging that sister & later rebelling against his father in such sadistic ways (maybe considering how David didn’t protect his daughter, having so easily given Tamar over in response to Amnon’s bizarre request in his “ill-state” to have Tamar, specifically, care for him so he could “watch her as she cooked his food & fed him with her own hands” 😒🥴🫣🙈😡
How did that not spark questioning when Amnon had so many servants… how was that not a red flag for David as their father considering Tamar’s obvious beauty & the ongoing fights between the kids of all his different wives?! 🙄🤦🏻♀️ NOT TO MENTION, all the servants in the room whom Amnon commanded to leave so he & Tamar could be alone 🤬😓). No one thought to question that or tell the king?? Obviously, I still need to work on my frustration with allllllllll that in yesterday’s chapters 🙈
In the same way you feel Absalom’s fate was “earned” or “justified”… I too felt the same about Amnon. However, I keep seeing (& experiencing) how not seeking God’s guidance almost always leads to more destruction in one way or another, if not always 😮💨 Just as in David’s examples in asking God first… sometimes God says “yes, go..” other times.. God says “no, stay”… and other times, God gives specific instructions of how to go about things despite what routes may seem obvious. Just shows how God knows everything & his timing is perfect even if our limited sight & understanding requires more time to align.
