It is #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek. This year the theme is #loneliness.
People who are lonely are more likely to experience mental ill health, and people with mental health conditions are more likely to be lonely.

@drjulianabel@EndofLifeStudy 2/2, the majority of CD workers, the majority of volunteers. And the men in their high paid positions and ivory towers will sit back and mansplain how to do THE WORK! Julian, you know better than this. Gender is a real issue here, just ask any of the women around you.
@drjulianabel@EndofLifeStudy And yet still, it is predominantly women who take the reigns in developing a compassionate community, who do the grass roots work, who attend the meetings and spend the hours paving the pavement building relationships, all whilst being the majority of primary carers 1/2
Your thoughts please. 1. I’d like to open a discussion about how we can bridge the gap between those that WE know could benefit from the support of an EOL Doula but are so close to the medical model, that they feel doulas are woo woo or wishy washy or touchy feely!
@jowoodSW @MelissaJBloomer Not at all. I’ve worked closely with both and they complement each other well, with the doula providing non-institutionalised care.

@MarkHohenberg @palliverse@Elissa_Campbell@anzsgm@GeriSoc My role at GSP is to support the building of bridges between medical and non medical, and finding language to do this is part of it, so that we can have a non-binary solution/offering where we all work together. Tell me more @MarkHohenberg what words may help?
@MarkHohenberg @palliverse@Elissa_Campbell@anzsgm@GeriSoc It’s such a big act of imagination to come at the role, particularly when closely aligned with medical model, there was a gp and nurse in this last family ‘getting in the way’ of the care that the person wanted. Hospital is best kinda thing.
@gemma_allen1 Even ‘soul’ is a term that can put others off. I’d love to see the role described &visible in more accessible ways, I’d love this midwifing to be more accessible. I’ve just activated an experienced team to support a family but they couldn’t come at it due to language 😳
