Reflections or comments about my English 4401 Class

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

Aminata illustrates that throughout the novel to gain freedom something must be lost. She's never able to say her final goodbyes @ENGL4401

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

2/2 Aminata comes to terms that there's no mix b/w the past&present & going back wont change what she needs to do: tell her story. @ENGL4401

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

1/2 Aminata not going back to Bayo reflects the nature of the novel. The inability to return separates the past & present. @ENGL4401

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

"it was almost impossible to get into Africa, but easy to be taken out."Powerful quote:commenting on slavery&cultural assimilation.@ENGL4401

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

So glad Aminata is finally the djeli she always wanted to be. Her wish of telling her story to the masses has finally come true. @ENGL4401

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

100% "The Book of Negroes" is in my top 3 favourite novels. It's emotionally intense and has created Aminata as a role model. @ENGL4401

Middle Passage

@Mikenstuff10101 @ENGL4401 I agree...really loved Fomba's character in the novel.

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

Loved Fomba in the novel. He was Aminata's connection to the past & protector. Kinda wished that he was a part of the series too. @ENGL4401

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

Aminata's parents dying together was extremely tragic. IDK what's worse, them die together or dying apart from one another. @ENGL4401

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

Wonder why the TV Series decided to have Fanta baby-less. Does make me glad tho b/c of what happens on the ship in the novel.@ENGL4401 #BoN

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

Why did Fanta kill the babies? I understand if it was to save them from the future but it felt vengeful and angry. Not out of love @ENGL4401

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

"it felt like a friend.... and comforted me" (pg. 37). Wonder if this is what Jack felt in regards to Ma's tooth. @ENGL4401

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

"....why women were always busy, I reasoned that men were weak and needed rest" (17). questioning gender roles young #laughing @ENGL4401

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

Wonder what Appa would say if he knew that a Korean and Japanese Mart were doing business side by side near my place @ENGL4401

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

Appa's history lessons taught to Jung reminds me of the history lessons my dad tried to have me memorize. @ENGL4401

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

"What ticket?"
"The ticket you need to be invited to the conversation!"
Made me laugh so hard! #KimsConvenience @ENGL4401

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

@ENGL4401 I was hoping that Jung's return would be more emotional. It seemed rushed and I felt it was missing something.

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

@ENGL4401 Kims Convenience makes me wonder how hard it was for my grandpa to own a store in Chinatown.

[Nikki @Nikki4401]

@ENGL4401 Seems like every1 Outside is trying to find the diffs between Ma-Jack and them to make their story about victims and not survival
