I am thrilled to see Debbie Bannon do a new series of blog posts as she is able or led. We always love honoring our alumni in some way, even if they have gone on to Jesus, but the stories in each of their lives can inspire others to consider long-term or even short-term missions. The Patience of Water

I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.
– 1 Corinthians 3:6 NIV

Did you know that one inch of rain falling on one acre of land is about 27,000 gallons of water? That’s a lot of drops falling from the sky to quench the earth. And if we were to capture that rain, we could do something with it.

Water finds a way into the smallest crevice. If you have ever poured water into a jar of rocks, you know what I mean. Oftentimes, we are more like mud and debris, raging down a wash, demolishing everything in its path rather than the patience of a drop of water following the easiest path down into a tiny crack and into the house.

Many more of those drops of rain will eventually create damp insulation, wet sheet rock, and eventually it gets into the house. We need the patience of water.

So, we set up systems like a gardener to water what we plant so it can yield a good harvest. Those collected drops become something greater; water used to nourish what God has called us to plant and cultivate.

Like rainwater through a forest, patient faithfulness finds a way forward.

This tree in Greenville, SC reminded me of my resolve this year: To stay rooted in Christ as a leader. That probably sounds very silly considering we should always be deeply rooted in Christ, but as a leader, it's easy to get lost in the chaos and work of ministry and lose sight of the 'why' you do things.

It's the 'why' that challenges me to do all my projects well. Quality matters.
