You can demonstrate that Britain can influence the EU more when outside than inside by taking the lead in the issues that matter. Investing in tackling climate change will have a much greater impact than chopping off trees to make a new train line.

Such action can at the same time force other countries to follow suit, and cause a snowball effect, particularly the EU who will not want to look as lagging behind Britain on such an issue.

HS2 is the next big-massive decision. No doubt there is huge pressure to get it approved. You also want to send a strong signal to the country that you are taking action to boost the economy post Brexit. .
