I’m 61 and I’ve been round the block when it comes to disabled people, work and benefits. I’m hearing it’s people’s ‘duty’ to get back into the workplace, but during my career, I’ve been sacked, denied promotion, pay rises and work opportunities, because I’m visually impaired.
This woman from Wales was recently prosecuted for not paying her TV licence.
She made clear she'd been in an abusive relationship and relying on foodbanks, but was now able to pay in full.
The case went ahead and she got a £146 court bill and criminal record.

@kierancutting Oh! There's a whole bunch of epistolary/play-by-post roleplaying games that you might love. It's not writing but my favourite one is this game about 12th century artists writing letters to one another called Drawing out the Demon https://t.co/wxjfd3QTSk
The government write trans guidance for schools without speaking to any trans people or any schools.
Then plan to ‘consult’ the general public and a “range of interested organisations”
Including organised hate groups.

I don't come here that often anymore but I've now submitted by PhD! I worked together with organisations that deliver RSE to build escape rooms, games, and activities and to learn about what's important for them in the creation of sex education programmes.
Apparently the government are planning to tell doctor's to "sign fewer patients off sick" to reinvigorate the economy.
Unfortunately, just telling people they are not sick, doesn't make them not sick, so I think this plan will probably fail.
Lets have a look at the data.

Last month I worked undercover with debt collectors breaking into homes of vulnerable families for British Gas
We were sent to force-fit prepayment meters at homes including one where a mum was with her 4 week old baby.
If families cannot top up, their heating can be cut off
Thousands of nurses are on strike today. Why?
📉 Real pay down £5,000 since 2010
⚡ 1 in 3 have difficulty affording food and heating their homes
👩⚕️ 50,000 nurse shortfall in England
🏥 1 in 9 nurses left the NHS in 2021

Fully-sighted people will never understand the joy of completely and absolutely destroying a user interface by just pressing CTRL+ a few too many times.
BREAKING. David Carrick, a Metropolitan police officer has admitted at least 80 sex attacks, including 47 rapes, against a dozen women. It means that one of the country's worst sex offenders has been working at the force for 20 years
We are appalled that Carrick used his position as an officer to access victims, and that @metpoliceuk's culture of impunity allowed him to continue abusing women for years.
No more platitudes. We demand justice and radical change.

Your periodic reminder that charity will never solve what public policy was meant to address. The generosity of strangers is not a substitute for good public policy.
