As a PGY-2 #tweetiatrician who is also a burgeoning palliative care physician, I unfortunately am no expert (yet!) on pain management or end-of-life conversations. But I AM pretty good at creating a safe space for my patients and their parents.

That’s me! 🥹
Also anyone who is a residency/fellowship program director should read it and we should talk about how to address these stressors to make trainees’ lives better…

Part of personal growth and being a better person is learning how you best rest and find joy…
Now I will go spend a week in Mexico with my husband ☀️🥰✈️😬
I went on a home visit yesterday to see some patients who couldn’t make it into clinic…
We came back with two watermelons from their garden for the office, after having held a healthy new baby 🍉
My job is really the best ❤️ #hapc
I recently saw an amazing patient. He happens to be a transgender male.
I realized that, despite all my ally pins, all my proclamations of excitement are gendered.
GIRL!
DUDE!

I regularly work 40-50 hr/wk in fellowship with the rare 70 hr/wk (as opposed to the opposite in residency).
I have hobbies.
I exercise EVERY DAY.
I feel whole again.
And I am a bomb doctor.
Time for #selfcare makes us better physicians. I will die on this hill.

Sometimes it’s hard to articulate your feelings in a tweet, so I’ll just say this:
The PICU is a difficult place to work, especially as a resident.
Today was a good day for my patients and for me.
I am going to cherish it for now.

The fellowship application process drained me (no time to write), but after matching, I feel so many emotions and am facing the uncertainty of the future head on. If you relate, here's a blog post featuring the poetry of @rupikaur_#narrativemedicine

I gave my noon conference presentation on my patients who had died.
I included literature on grief as well as sharing how I had processed his death.
This is me giving you permission to include humanity in your academic talks. We are doctors, not robots ❤️
