Cada día estoy más convencido de que Venezuela es solamente una parte de una estrategia mucho más grande de Estados Unidos para el hemisferio occidental y el mundo.

En todos mis años trabajando dentro del gobierno estadounidense, es la primera vez que veo semejante concentración de esfuerzo sobre Venezuela, diplomacia, inteligencia, poder militar, justicia, energía, economía y política moviéndose simultáneamente y a una velocidad extraordinaria.

Por eso también coincido con la necesidad de mantener partes importantes de esta estrategia en reserva. Ya vimos las filtraciones durante el despliegue hacia la cuenca del Caribe y la preparación de la Operación Absolute Resolve. Me recuerda Operation Just Cause.

Pero hay algo todavía mayor detrás de Venezuela.

Durante más de dos décadas, el chavismo utilizó el poder económico y político venezolano para proyectar el llamado Socialismo del Siglo XXI por América Latina.

Si Venezuela cambia, el impacto no termina en Caracas.

La arquitectura política e ideológica construida alrededor del Socialismo del Siglo XXI en el hemisferio también recibe un golpe extraordinario.

Y esa ideología ya está tragando fuerte.

Por eso creo que sería un error analizar lo que está ocurriendo exclusivamente como “la transición venezolana”.

Venezuela puede ser solamente una pieza, aunque quizás central de una estrategia hemisférica mucho más grande.
