I was just a kid in 2006 when the Carolina Hurricanes went on that magical playoff run and brought the Stanley Cup to Raleigh. I fell head over heels for hockey watching those games — the Storm Surge, the grit, the belief. That team stole my heart.
I started watching religiously in 2009 and rode with them through it all. The lean years. The brutal rebuilds. The near-misses and soul-crushing playoff exits. Empty arenas where you could hear every echo. Seasons that tested every fan’s loyalty.
But we stayed. Because this is our team.
Tonight, after everything, the Carolina Hurricanes have a real shot to hoist the Cup again. To make every kid (and every grown kid) who fell in love with this franchise feel like that 2006 magic is back.
Nikishin’s value has doubled over the last 60 games or so. If we can package him and KK to another team for a better draft position or depth winger/C with term, we’ll do it in a heart beat. We have a couple of players in the pipeline that’re ready to take the jump next season and would still be on ELC. I expect our brainiac GM to make a Big splash before July 1st.
In order to win the Stanley Cup… the Vegas Golden Knights will have to beat the Carolina Hurricanes in back-to-back games.
The Carolina Hurricanes have not lost back-to-back games since January 13th.
