As the schools start back can someone tell me why girls have to wear a tie? Why have we not moved on from this ridiculous uniform based solely on men's work clothes? How is forcing girls to wear shirts & ties preparing them for work clothes they will never be required to wear?

Not a phone call you want to receive. A call from our neighbour John to say their field was on fire, slung a cultivator on to go and help. As we were getting the fire under control another field fire broke out about half a mile away. An unbelievable effort of 8 tractors & 3 Telehandler from 6 different farms, with tankers & cultivators coordinating with a rapid response from the Fire Brigade meant they were under control with minimal damage. Without those tankers being full & ready to go this could have been much worse. Both fires caused by overheating electricity transformers. A lesson to me, just because harvest is over doesn't mean the fire risk is.

We also need to prepare for a wicked winter. What goes up must come down and I reckon winter is going to be brutal. Then it's back to months of rain that we don't retain, a drought summer then back to extreme winter 😔

A man thought he’d won £145,000 on William Hill. He withdrew £33,000, told his sick mum he’d pay off her mortgage then the company said it was a glitch and demanded the money back.

– Matt Cook was playing William Hill’s Jackpot Drop game on March 16, 2026.

– His account balance jumped to around £145,000.

– He managed to withdraw approximately £33,000 before the account was locked.

– He told his 67-year-old mother, who is battling breast cancer, that he would pay off her mortgage.

– He also set aside money for a car for his child with a disability and made promises to the mothers of his children about helping with college fees.

– A day later William Hill contacted him, saying the win was the result of a technical error.

– The company demanded he return the £33,000 he had already withdrawn.

– They gave him a short deadline and offered to let him keep only about 11% as a “goodwill” gesture.

– Cook appeared on Good Morning Britain in April 2026 and described the situation, saying paying the full amount back would bankrupt him.

He saw the money in his account, withdrew part of it, and started making plans for his family. Then William Hill decided the win never happened.
