@WolfgangRichtEU Three migrants were furiously masturbatig at the border check point.
The border policeman asked them why!
One of them shouted, "we're told you have a 'first cum first served' rule here!
@ValueWithPrem This hits. Protecting kids from all struggle isn't love. It's slow sabotage.
The grind that built the wealth is the same grind that builds the person. Skip it, and you raise an heir instead of a builder.
@gtomwhite@Umesh__digital She built the first compiler and argued computers could understand human-like language when everyone said that was impossible.
She also coined "debugging."
You said it yourself. Two engineers. Everyone remembers one.
The other was Ken Thompson.
He wrote Unix. He built B, the language C was carved out of. And decades later he co-created UTF-8, the text encoding this exact tweet is written in.
No keynote. No launch video. Just a guy who decided the words on every screen on Earth should simply work.
Ritchie gave us the language. Thompson gave us the ground it stood on.
Two men. One terminal. Zero applause.
Long overdue.
Spot on.
It's the difference between a farmer who must sell his crop to survive and a gardener whose greenhouse is watered by someone else's tax bill regardless of what he grows. The gardener can afford to lecture the farmer about greed... his own harvest was never at risk.
Look at any tenured department... the same professors who've never signed a payroll, never missed rent because a client walked, will confidently diagnose what's wrong with markets they've never had to survive in. It's not that market experience makes you right and academic distance makes you wrong... it's that one comes with skin in the game, and the other doesn't.
Easy to despise risk when the State has already insured you against it.
Big difference.
Then the state jailed you for producing more. Now competitors just try to out-price you. I'll take the second problem.
Back then the government decided if you could even start a business. Today Adani-Ambani have to compete for your choice. You can still buy a Lava-Lemon phone if you want.
@Pivot2Centre In his book 'India Unbound', Gurucharan Das speaks with JRD Tata. Tata tells him that income tax during the licence raj of Indira Gandhi was so high (97.5%) that every year he had to sell some part of his property in order to live at his standards.
@GadSaad There aren't any thousand years old Hindu temples left in the entire North India. All razed and turned into mosques. It's hard to imagine what must have happened to the people who went through those attacks and massacres.
There are no transwomen.
There are men living out a male perspective of what they imagine womanhood to be (often a fetishized stereotype of womanhood). No amount of surgery, injections, or cosplay will change a man into a woman.
@PeterSweden7 In summers between March to June, the temperature rises as high as 50C in most parts of India but you don't hear about wildfires in Indian jungles spread in millions of square kilometers.
