Tariffs - Let's Unearth The Reality

What will be the final tariff rate for most of the world

A question in every investor mind ?

Here is the answer...
~ Pre 2025 the effective tariff rate for most of the nations was 3-4% but in April 2025 the new tariff era has started where the effective rate went in double digits for most of the countries...

It was an unprecedented change for which nobody was ready to deal with...

Later when the negotiations stated some countries have secured the deal based on their own convenience & challenges..

10 months gone & we have a lot of interim trade deals which happened between US & other countries/regions

Before Supreme Court Rulling Canada & Mexico are the only countries where effective tariff is in single digits ( 7-9% estm.)

Japan has an effective tariff of around 11-12% followed by EU with 12-13.5%

This equation has changed on 7th Feb'2026 when the US has withdrawn 25% additional tariff on India...

With India getting 45% goods in zero duty & rest other at 18% ( Excluding Steel) the effective rate comes around 12-13% which is slightly lower than EU..

Now with the supreme court ruling there is another twist of flat 10% tariff on all the countries & still some sort of uncertainty is there about the way forward of these tariffs

All in all one thing is confirmed that we are in a new ERA where a 3.5% effective tariff rate is history now & it is expected to settle around 8-12% for most of the countries in the coming months...

Region being India has signed the highest ever FTA in the last 8-10 months period as the world trade order is changing...

Going forward look out for the long term measure which companies are taking to stay competitive in exports to US & other companies...

Companies which have plants or facilities in the US will an added advantage vs others..
