Ric Flair has publicly discussed four separate incidents where his life was at risk.
1. 1975 Plane Crash: Flair was a passenger in a plane crash in North Carolina that killed the pilot and paralyzed wrestler Johnny Valentine. Flair broke his back in three places and was told his career was over, but returned to the ring three months later.
2. Lightning Strike (Incident 1): In Richmond, VA, Flair said lightning struck the umbrella he was holding, bounced off, and struck a man standing five feet behind him, killing the man instantly.
3. Lightning Strike (Incident 2): Flair has stated in multiple interviews that he survived being struck by lightning a second time.
4. 2017 Medical Emergency: Flair was hospitalized for complications related to alcohol use, leading to kidney failure and near-congestive heart failure. He was placed in a medically induced coma for 10 days and given a 20% chance of survival. He has since recovered.
