Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya - detained without charges for over 500 days- is reportedly being tortured & at an imminent risk of death in Israeli detention.

Abu Safiya is among 14 Gaza doctors (pediatricians, surgeons & other specialists) who remain detained without charge, many for more than a year.

Their continued detention deprives patients of vital care & further undermines Gaza’s shattered healthcare system.

Their release is essential to saving lives + restoring Gaza’s shattered healthcare system.

More than 1,000 councillors have pledged to support Palestinian rights by pushing for council pension funds to divest from Israel and ensure local governments are not otherwise implicated in the country’s abuses.

Green party Gorton and Denton byelection candidate Hannah Spencer is among the 1,056 councillors who have joined the Councillor Pledge for Palestine initiative.

“I signed… because I refuse to be complicit in Israel's genocide and apartheid,” said Spencer, who is a Trafford councillor.

“Keir Starmer’s Labour government isn’t just a bystander to Israel’s crimes,” she added, “it’s an active participant: from arming the Israeli military, to the prime minister’s claim that Israel ‘has the right’ to withhold power and water from Gaza.”

She added: “People in Gorton and Denton – from all races and religions – are horrified at this inhumanity. They don’t want another Labour apologist for genocide, or a Reform cheerleader for Netanyahu.” Green party deputy leader Mothin Ali has also signed.

Among the signatories, 352 are Greens, 344 are Labour, 105 are Liberal Democrats and four are Conservatives. Hundreds more are from the Scottish National Party, Plaid Cymru, the Scottish Greens, Your Party and local parties, or are independents.

The pledge, launched by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, binds councillors to “take all appropriate steps to uphold the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people [and] support efforts to prevent, and ensure accountability for, Israel’s crimes of genocide, military occupation, ethnic cleansing and apartheid.”

Signatories also promise to “ensure my council is not complicit in and does not help to normalise Israel’s violations of international law” via any funds it controls or through its procurement policies.

Since June 2024, 31 councils have passed motions or issued statements supporting the removal of companies complicit in Israel’s genocide from pension funds. Polling by Opinium found that 46% of voters support this form of divestment, while only 14% oppose it.

هذه محاولتي الرابعة لكتابة هذه التغريدة. كتبت كثيرًا، وحين عجزت عن اختيار الكلمات شتمت هذا العالم بأقذر ما يمكن، ثم تراجعت. وحين حاولت أن أعبّر عمّا في داخلي انهارت كلماتي أمام بشاعة ما يحدث.

إسرائيل قتلت أبطالنا يومًا بعد يوم أمام أعيننا. وبسبب خذلاننا لهم، حاصرتهم وجوعتهم وطاردتهم من مكان إلى آخر، يومًا بعد يوم.

فرحنا بصور البطولة التي صنعوها بدمهم وصمودهم. وعند حاجتهم إلينا اكتفينا بالدعاء. وعند استشهادهم تفاخرنا بصورهم ومواقفهم…

بالله عليكم، ما قيمتنا في هذه الحياة؟

تقول إسرائيل إنها تعتقد أنها أنهت ملف المقاومين المحاصرين في رفح؛ تقول إنها قتلت أربعين منهم، وكان آخرهم قائد الكتيبة شرق رفح أعلى رتبة هناك ونائبه وقائد فصيل، وغيرهم، ومن بينهم ابن القيادي في حماس غازي حمد. واعتقلت آخرين، إمّا جرحى أو أحياء.

نفتخر بأنهم لم يستسلموا وقاتلوا حتى آخر نفس… لكننا ننسى أننا نحن جميعًا استسلمنا أمام عجزنا، واكتفينا بالمشاهدة …

برأيكم… ماذا كان يقول هذا البطل الذي ترونه في المقطع أدناه، وهو جريح، وحيد، ملقى على الأرض، يحيط به الجنود وتراقبه مسيّراتهم؟

هل كان ما زال يملك أملاً بأن يأتي أحد ويفك حصاره؟ ماذا كان سيقول أطفاله عند مشاهدته ؟
هل ستعتقله إسرائيل لتعذّبه بما يفوق كل ما سمعناه من صور التعذيب؟ أم ستعدمه ميدانيًا بعد كل ما عاناه؟

تذكّروا… نحن السبب فيما وصل إليه.
