@ankitkante@gauravsabnis Only a tiny bit, and that too, long ago. Also, when the Ukraine war began, I saw a call for "only new clothes donations" for Ukrainian refugees resettling here. Wasn't the case during calls for non-white refugees, prior and even since. Which makes you think...
@ankitkante@gauravsabnis Thanks for seeing my point, Ankit! No one likes people who are entitled, I agree with you there. But we should not come to that conclusion too quickly. There may be reasons for people to refuse things even under dire circumstances and that should be totally ok to do.
@ankitkante@gauravsabnis I think the original point was that old clothes donations are usually very unwanted for several reasons, one of which is that sorting through them is particularly hard cos sometimes people also "donate" dirty clothes, which truly, no one should have to deal with
@ankitkante@gauravsabnis Also, I'll be perfectly happy to eat anything anyone put on my plate when I'm tired and hungry. I don't have any food restrictions whatsoever. But I would understand if someone doesn't want a specific food item for whatever reason too.
@ankitkante@gauravsabnis Food and clothes are different, no? I personally have an allergic response to many clothes, and need to be careful about what I put on my body. I want adults to be able to say no to things without having to go into detailed explanations that most people won't even try to get.
@ankitkante@gauravsabnis "I want to feel good" to throwing a tantrum about them having and voicing an opinion about something you want them to wear on their body...
@ankitkante@gauravsabnis You think you are going from, "I want to help you, here are old clothes" to "you don't deserve any help" - a diametrically opposite position, as soon as the person says that the thing you are giving them isn't actually helping them?
I think you're actually going from "

If you explained agriculture to folks in SF, you'd blow so many minds. It's... self-replicating, recursively self-improving nanotech for the physical world. And it's all open-source!
One instance can turn into hundreds of seeds, that turn into hundreds of instances. Next thing you know you have trillions of them. It's super-exponential
So I've got a hot take on this...
The problem is Proctor & Gamble and Kimberley Clarke.
They are the two biggest products of "absorbent hygiene products"(nappies, pads, continence wear) in the UK, and they're an absolute bloody menace.
🧵A thread, if you will indulge me:
Was trying to write some protest chants over the weekend and my husband skewered all my ideas and therefore I didn't end up having any new chants to contribute this time. Had so many bangers last time. Need to protest my peer-reviewer.
@LadyNimby Get a much older cousin/ someone from your village that she likes, to tell her that whining just makes everything worse for those around her and therefore, herself too. IMO those of us who grew up around many people learnt how to regulate better cos we had more examples of being.
Civilizational question that scales down to the level of WhatsApp groups:
"what actions will bring you acclaim? what is admired and rewarded?"
And the opposites too, to make it explicit:
"what will get censured? what actions will get you kicked out?"
which gets me thinking about King energy in the Gillette-Moore sense, and about Pericles and Lincoln's great speeches. a big question for a civilization is, what actions will bring you acclaim? what is admired and rewarded? if i were to tend to the health of a civ i'd start there
@TweetsOfLamaa__ For those with privileges today, who have seen things and can't just move on, I wrote about my experience moving past confusion to action. It's too long :/
So here's a snippet
@TweetsOfLamaa__ For those who can't unsee what they now see, the way out is collective action. These aren't issues that are solvable by one person... Attach to movement where you can be part of creating the future. You are not powerless!
A close friend, a man, told me that a smart woman's got to be smart enough to play dumb with her husband, otherwise most men won't be able to take it :/
Women with high cognitive ability face "detrimental interpersonal ramifications" at work
Men do not.
The theory is that smarter women violate perceived social role expectations leading them to face backlash that men do not receive https://t.co/zxVuguH585
Please post this fact often on all your socials.
Modi govt deployed way more troops in Delhi to fight young peaceful protesters than India deployed in the Kargil War against the Pakistan army.
Let that sink in.
Listen up Modi Shah - if you are stopping us from coming in, you too can’t get out. A warning for those in uniform- stop following unconstitutional orders.
How does neha bora have so much energy? Fighting & protesting everyday, getting be@ten up, getting detained, facing all these powerful people, & then waking up the next day to do it all over again.
Neha Bora is Fearless Lioness🔥
