Passing in the tradition from my middle school math teacher. We are watching Donald Duck in Mathemagic Land. I tell the kids I watched it on a Reel to Reel movie. It was the only movie we ever watched. I stress that the movie was old when I saw it.
Students are working in breakout rooms and have been matched with classmates at home. Hearing them talk math again in groups makes it feel almost normal.........almost.
@robertkaplinsky Make sure you acknowledge each student at least once in a class period. Say their name and have some interaction. This way they don’t go through a day without anyone noticing them.
@howie_hua We start teaching them to divide with common denominators a few years ago. It is better when they need to model it. Less "rules" for them to have to remember.
I went to my classroom today and it was stuck on March 13th. I cleaned it up and . I got my tape measure out for my desks. Back in rows which I do not like. A new layer to the August teacher nightmares. I really wish things could be normal again.
I have greatly enjoyed Andrew Lloyd Weber sharing his music and ideas during quarantine. Today is a quote that echoes my point if view when students solve math problems.
