Rwanda launches the Wastewater & Environmental Surveillance (WES) Community of Practice, building on nearly 4 years of work that started with testing wastewater from aircraft at Kigali International Airport. From 1 site to 11, this work is helping #Rwanda spot health threats earlier.

In his opening remarks, DG @CMuvunyi explained why this matters: "By testing wastewater, we can see signs of diseases and other health threats circulating in communities before many people feel sick or seek care. This provides early warning and supports a One Health approach that connects human, animal, and environmental health."

The new WES Community of Practice brings partners together to turn this information into action, strengthening collaboration, preparedness, and health security, and helping build a healthier, more resilient Rwanda.
