#HappeningNow The @AfricaCDC is hosting a 10-day Mental Health Leadership Training Program in #Harare#Zimbabwe. The program aims to equip mental health leaders with skills and approaches to tackle the growing burden of mental health challenges in #Africa.
The University of Ibadan, Nigeria will run the 11th Mental Health Leadership and Advocacy Course from 05th to 16th August 2024. @AfricaCDC will support a number of public health professionals from @_AfricanUnion Member States to participate in the course through their Mental Health Leadership Programme (MHLP).
#MHLP is a three-year flagship programme to prepare leaders in the health system to apply multifaceted approaches to understand and address mental health on the continent through a public health and human rights lens.
Public health professionals and persons with lived Experience with innovative projects to strengthen mental health systems in Africa are highly encouraged to apply.

Today, we launched the @AfricaCDC Mental Health Leadership Program, supported by @WellcomeTrust, @CBMGlobal, and @AFENET. With 6 of the 10 countries with the highest suicide rates in Africa, urgent action is needed. This program will strengthen mental health infrastructure and policies across @_AfricanUnion member states. It focuses on:
1. Strengthening the public health workforce
2. Building advocacy for stronger prioritization and investment in mental health.

A dawn of a new era, is upon us. @AfricaCDC leading the way in strengthening public workforce development in the continent, through Mental health Leadership Programme #MHLP.
Mental health is not a topic to be avoided but rather one that needs urgent attention. @AfricaCDC and its partners are taking action to develop a Mental Health Leadership Programme (#MHLP) to break the stigma and integrate mental health into existing programmes like the Kofi Annan, establishing FETP, implementing short leadership courses, and strengthen networking with CSOs, with support from @WellcomeTrust.

This #EuropeanMentalHealthWeek, let us speak up, reach out to each other and make sure that everyone facing mental health challenges are not alone.
It was an opportunity to bring other Member States for learning session on mental health legislation using Nigeria as case study which recently passed the Mental health Law. The meeting took place in Freetown, Sierra Leone on the 16th -17th May 2023. ~2/2
@AfricaCDC supported the @Governement of Sierra Leone to launch of the Presidential taskforce on mental health, in line with its priority to conduct high-level advocacy for #mentalhealth policies and legislations reform to meet continental and global standards. ~1/2
Discussing #NCDs and UHC on the sidelines of #WHA76, Dr Mohammed Abdulaziz, @AfricaCDC, talked about the need to make health systems available, accessible and affordable and the crucial role of community engagement in #NCD response.
