I have a conspiracy theory...

It's simple. To control a society, you need a binary. Baba had played that role for 3 decades on behalf of the state. It ensures you have an opposition you manage and control. A known quality. That no unknown leaders will emerge from nowhere and dismantle the system.

Once the handshake between Raila and Ruto happened after 2023 maandamano, and Baba focused on his Adani dealings, there was a vacuum. Ruto had tried to push Kalonzo in that opposition role through NADCO but he was hopeless and colourless. He had chosen man Stevoe as his 2027 opponent. Matiang'i is an enemy so not a choice.

The #GenZs then go ahead and mobilize themselves in 2024 without a recognised political leader who can be bought or threatened. Very scary for the establishment. It rallies ALL politicians in support of Ruto, led by Baba.

Meanwhile Gachagua had been struggling to gain traction in Murima. Kikuyus don't feel him. Something drastic had to be done. A demagogue had to be created to replace Baba and distract the masses and capture the opposition.

Gachagua has played the role perfectly! He's now the Mt Kenya kingpin. He's playing the "yule mkabila" role as a masterclass and he's disorganised the United Opposition... They were cruising perfectly towards 2027...
