Marriage Unboxed - Part 1 // The Evolution of Society
Divorce was rare growing up, but today, divorces are common. While men complain that women have become independent and disrespectful, women complain that men are insecure and toxic. But behind each person’s complaint lies an invisible reality: society has evolved faster than humans. When both the modern and traditional person are stripped naked and placed side by side, there’s no difference. But while physically they are the same, mentally, they are miles apart.
Whenever the man went hunting and came back with food, he received a hero’s welcome, and the wife would tend to his needs as is befitting of a hero. As society progressed, the man still went to work and returned to a similar welcome. But today, the man returns home before the wife does, and except for the maid, there’s no one else to welcome him back. And to add salt to the wound, the wife returns with a bigger check.
To heal his wounds, the man takes on a mistress (side chick) who depends on him for her livelihood, and whenever he visits, he receives a hero’s welcome. Eventually, the wife learns of the mistress, her heart is broken, and she files for divorce. The man is left running the household on a single check, and he can no longer sustain the mistress, and she also leaves.
The shrewd woman, aware of the threat of side chicks, underdeclares her salary and sucks her husband dry financially until he has nothing left over to finance a secondary relationship. Her shrewdness preserves the traditional order in their home at the expense of honesty. Eventually, her husband learns of her hidden wealth and struggles to reconcile the lie he has been living.
Society has evolved; the genie is out of the bottle and cannot be returned. Traditional marriages were simple; the husband and wife had clear roles, and the society was also conducive to that structure. But marriages today are complex; the roles are no longer clearly defined, and doing your job isn’t enough for marriage to work. Couples need to stop operating on assumptions and guesswork; they need to start operating on facts and truth. They have to learn to speak and to listen. They have to learn to communicate.

“Our rights and aspiration for #seeds and #foodsovereignty is not just about protecting the rights of us farmers-it is also the future of our food systems. We say no to #UPOV and to the patenting of our seeds - our life!” Tatay Larry, @MASIPAGFarmers

📍 Baku, Azerbaijan – As #COP29Baku begins, the @Afsafrica is championing #agroecology as a key solution for climate adaptation and resilience in Africa. Representing ten African countries, AFSA’s delegation urges a substantial increase in climate finance for agroecology to support small-scale farmers and Indigenous communities.
This approach aligns with AFSA’s advocacy for agroecology in policies like the Global Goal on Adaptation, National Adaptation Plans(NAPs), Nationally Determined Contributions(NDCs), and the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance. AFSA’s “Agroecology for Climate Action”
In this video, I discuss in detail the various interventions AFSA is implementing to integrate agroecology into climate action, including capacity building, resource mobilization, research, and evidence gathering among others. You can read our official statement here: https://t.co/6mfLmqknH3.
