BREAKING : Suspended deputy national commissioner Shadrack Sibiya is in the dock. The state and defence are not opposed to the bail application being broadcast with restrictions but that won’t proceed today because of time constraints. The bail hearing will now be heard on the 29th of September. Sibiya will be detained at Kgosi Mampuru prison. No bail granted.

Former law firm accountant sentenced to 15 years for stealing R17 million

Liezel Badenhorst (44) has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for stealing R17 million from her previous employer.

The former law firm accountant was arrested on charges of fraud related to the misappropriation of funds from Du Toit Attorneys between 2018 and 2023.

Following discrepancies in the trust bank account noticed by the managing director, the case was escalated to the Hawks for investigation.

Subsequent inquiries uncovered that the accused had used a senior attorney's login credentials to carry out multiple transactions redirecting funds to her personal bank account.

Additionally, it was revealed that Badenhorst manipulated the accounting system, leading to the falsification of financial records.
