Today in our society meeting, Annant chose an Indian poem, translated into English, called “Koshish karne walon ki kabhi haar nahi hoti” referring to “those who never give up, never lose”. After discussing this motivational poem , we learnt that resilience is key to success.

Today we were delighted to welcome the CEO of the Emirates Literature Festival and the co-founder of Magrudys to NLCS Dubai. Mrs. Isobel Abulhoul talked about her life and how the Emirates Literature Festival and Magrudys all started. @MagrudyStore @EmiratesLitFest @ummansoor

Today we read the ending of ‘The hen who dreamed she could fly’ which was written by a Korean author, Sun-mi-Hwang. We discussed the rather shocking ending and whether children should be exposed to more truthful stories. Has the Disneyfication of fairystories gone too far?

We have had our final meeting of the year – we had Christmas treats and games. To end the meeting we read the classic Christmas poem: ‘Twas the night before Christmas’ written by Clement Clarke Moore.

We held our first assembly of Literary Society on Thursday. We presented the highlights of Poetry Week and heard some really powerful and original poems, written by students. We can’t wait for Poetry Week next year. #poetryweek #poetry

NLCS Dubai celebrated National Poetry Day with a thoughtful week of activities. We explored the theme of 'Poetry for Change' during events on form time, lunch time and more. It was a good opportunity for students to rediscover the beauty of poems! #NationalPoetryDay

NLCS are celebrating National Poetry Day with a week of fun activities.
This year the theme is ‘Poetry for Change’.
Students will get to explore the theme; match teachers’ favourite poems to the teachers, create a whole school poem and other activities.#NationalPoetryDay

We held our third society meeting, in which we read the poem ‘Hope’ written by Emily Dickinson. We analyzed the poem deeply and we found out that hope is a constant emotion that is always there for us. #emilydickinson #hope

Literature Society held their second meeting and we welcomed twice as many members as last week! We read an 800 year old poem, ‘Gone to the Unseen’ chosen by Maryam Khan. The poem was beautifully written in English, but it had been translated from its original Farsi. #Rumi

Literature Society have had their first meeting of 2018 – 2019. We read ‘Blowin’ in the wind’, chosen by our chair Sam Lee and were surprised to find out that it was part of a song by Bob Dylan. We used this to explore what literature actually meant. #BobDylan #nobelprize
