Today we had a wonderful talk from Geraint Lewis on Benjamin Britten's War Requiem.The War Requiem was composed in 1961 for the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral.This talk was special as he played sections of the music for us to appreciate.
Remember our visit to St Fagan’s Archives on Feb. 20th. where Deputy Archivist Lowry Jenkins will give a talk. The Photographic Archive has over 200,000 images in its collection.
If you attend you will need to bring your own car as the service to St Fagans has been withdrawn.
Wish people wd stop saying gloomily that it took Tv to get the subpostmasters to the top of the agenda. This is (as Libby Purves has said I think) the real power of arts and drama (expertise that is being starved of funding) Message is: we need to fund the arts.

The Friends had a fascinating g talk today from Professor M Wynn Thomas on A History of Wales in Twelve Poems. He took us through Welsh poetry from the 8th century to the present, accompanied by beautiful linocut illustrations. The large audience thoroughly enjoyed his enthusiasm
Around 9.15am on the 21 October 1966, Merthyr Vale Colliery tip collapsed and slid onto the village of Aberfan.
Thousands of tonnes of black coal waste engulfed Pantglas Junior School, and parts of the village, killing 116 children and 28 adults.
