This reminds me of a banker I knew some years ago.
She was acting all interested and ready for a relationship. One Sunday evening, she called, and I answered while my neighbourβs toddlers were in my apartment, playing and "rearranging" my spaces.
Suddenly, she paused and said, "I can hear children playing in the background. So, you have kids? wow!"
That was the last time she ever called me. π
Fast-forward to last year. We ran into each other at an event, exchanged pleasantries, and she asked about my children.
I laughed and told her I had none.
She looked confused and said "But I thought you hadβ¦"
I told her those kids were my neighbour's. I simply loved having them around because they kept me company.
I suspected she was engaged. But what caught my attention was that subtle disappointment on her face when I said those kids werenβt mine.
That reaction left me wondering what was going through her mind all those years ago. I won't even pretend to have the answers.
But one thing I know is that God has mysterious ways of keeping us away from people and situations we may never fully understand until much later.
Back to her tweet:
So, she blocked a 42-year-old man because he still lives with his parents. The same man is very financially stable and has a decent job.
And apparently, she didn't have the patience or the depth of thought to find out whether he was putting up a show to simply test how she reacts, responds, and relates to difficult situations.
Good luck to her.
Forever is too long to commit to someone simply because you admire what you see on the surface. Take your time but hasten things up. Ask questions. Remove staged environments. Observe patterns. Validate facts. Understand the person beyond what they are showing you.
Someone can look like everything you've ever wanted and still be the wrong person for you. Likewise, someone can have OR, show you circumstances you don't particularly admire and still possess personality, the character, the values, and the capacity to build the kind of life you desire.
Marriage is too consequential a decision to be made on the strength of first impressions, superficial judgments, or temporary admiration.
Take your time to know the person you're choosing. You could be committing yourself to a lifetime of peace, or unknowingly setting up your destiny for misery.
