This is my “North Star” in all my coaching decisions. From recruiting, style of play, and rotations I always come back to influencing TS% on both ends and then winning total number of possessions. This is especially important for role players or guys trying to earn minutes
The initial rise of analytics really optimized shot selection (FT, rim, 3) to drive TS%. Now it has gone in direction of tilting possession battle (TO diff, OReb, Pace). It really simplifies the game to if you have a better TS% and take more shots you win.
Some sports such as 100m sprinting, swimming, baseball, shot put steroid use may be more effective as these rely solely on quick bursts of maximal outputs.
Don’t think steroids are very useful for any team-sport where agility/COD/deception are the primary drivers of success. Simply adding mass may actually be anti-athleticism for a lot of these guys who rely on their elite tendon structure to be elastic movers
One really interesting thing about boxing is that heavy/obvious steroid use does NOT appear to be all that beneficial, unlike seemingly every other sport.
Champions often at least "look" natural and frequently beat obvious heavy PED users.
His route running is a clinic for COD for any sport. Show speed with acceleration, but always control speed and play at a speed you can effectively develop/change direction at. He probably never hits over 70% of his Max V in any of these clips @Tony_Villani_
This is why I think the rise of analytics has been great for the development of coaching. Gives you valuable feedback to evaluate your own decision making rather than just opting for “this has always worked”.
Understanding the concept of survivorship bias in athletics will cause you to question many traditional methods. Often we try to emulate the strategies/philosphies/training of the 0.1% success stories and fail to recognize the 99% that have used the same methods and failed.
This 10k steps thing is getting out of hand. Unless you are chronically obese it does not equate as a workout. Get under a bar and lift heavy weight, get outside and run fast.
He’s an elite lateral mover at POA but kinda goes to show that without adequate length to contest the elite offensive players will get to their spot regardless and it’s just a matter of if they make or miss
@JohnCarrier42 Majority of these parents would be a lot better of investing their money in player dev for their kid. Pay for top end skill dev, private S&C coach 3-4 times a week and play a few regional AAU events. This gives you a chance to play D3 and maybe scholarship if good enough.
@trigonis30 You are with these kids for a week and claim them. You did absolutely nothing. Congrats you were able to tell AJ Dynantsa was a good HS prospect
