Saving Sheffield's Libraries

[SCALP #zerocovid #KillTheBill @NoLibraryCuts]

@SheffLibraries What is the policy in Sheffield over in-person events at libraries in the face of Omicron variant COVID, the most transmissable variant yet? https://t.co/bEbxuFaYMZ @wylie_alan

[Alan Wylie @wylie_alan]

So some English councils/library services are ‘mandating’ face coverings & some are cancelling in-person events & some are doing nothing (not yet anyway) - what a bloody confusing fragmented mess - this is why libraries need to be included in national restrictions.

@Littlemisslibr2 @wylie_alan Looks like @SheffLibraries are still OK for people to hold spreading events. https://t.co/5FZ49ei3uN

I am considering writing a fairly lengthy series of tweets explaining the basis of how the human immune system works, with specific reference to viruses. Would you find this helpful? If enough people would I will write it over the next few days.

The Conservative Party are privatising the NHS and much of the media are absolutely silent about it.

Mandate mask use in all indoor settings.

Close schools or mitigate them

Stop killing children

I’d rather wear a mask than a ventilator.

And for those who think all of this is alarmist, we went through this with delta. And we responded too late. When there is a potential threat, it's important to respond early, in line with its potential, until we understand more. That's not alarmist. It's basic pandemic response

[Dr. Deepti Gurdasani @dgurdasani1]

Always better to take precautions, and scale back if the threat turns out to be at a lower level than anticipated, than to under react, which is what we've done since the beginning of the pandemic.

@LloydHardy We cannot end up like USA where you only get treatment after you get out your credit card. Awful to have a system the rich can afford and no one else can. Let’s not go backwards #AmendNHSBill

For 19 months, I've been constantly attacked for advocating for elimination, and saying SARS-CoV-2 isn't a virus we can and should live with. It's been evolving in one direction from the start- greater transmissibility, escape & virulence. 🧵

All power to the Sheffield bus drivers, on strike this coming week ✊

We join Sheffield in mourning the lives lost in the channel yesterday. No one should be forced to risk their life making this dangerous crossing. It is time for our country to wake up and turn towards a more compassionate approach to people seeking safety. #RefugeesWelcome

[Brian Tweedale @BrianHTweed]

Watching MOTD after listening to the news about the Omicron virus. Stadiums were rammed with maskless fans. There’s a full schedule of games tomorrow, where the same will be the case. We’re stuffed aren’t we. #JohnsonMustGo

Maryam Nuri Mohamed Amin, a 24-year-old Kurdish woman is the first victim to be named from those who drowned in the Channel. She was fleeing northern Iraq, not migrating through choice but seeking safe passage & refuge to survive.

She was engaged & had a future. Say her name.
