The idea that an abusive relationship has a “happy ending,” as suggested by Fifty Shades is insulting and dangerous. So many people remain in toxic situations, hoping things will change for the better. We shouldn’t be suggesting it will. Abusers rarely change to that degree.
There is something frightening about the idea that we are supposed to want a man like Christian Grey, just because he’s rich and supposedly attractive. No, thanks. I want a man who respects me and understands the importance of consent.
Yet another fan suggesting those who see abuse in 50 Shades haven’t read it. Sweetie, I read it. I’ve also LIVED it. I know what I’m talking about. Time to put the lived experiences of survivors above your crush on a fictional abuser.
A recent study from The University of Nebraska showed men’s earlier exposure to porn increased likelihood of dominating behaviors towards women. Even men exposed later showed an increase in likelihood of “playboy” behavior. #nomoreporn#pornkillslove
It's being sold as something it isn't. Also, popular culture influences societal views. It's not a "fantasy" for many who've known abuse. https://t.co/Ve6gkOsHp9
