Your Brain Maps Actions Like It Maps Space
A new study reveals that the brain organizes action-outcome associations in a map-like structure, similar to how it navigates physical space.
These cognitive maps are located in the hippocampus and interact with the motor system to support flexible, goal-directed behaviors.
Using immersive virtual reality and fMRI, researchers observed that actions perceived as more similar were represented closer together in these internal maps.
This suggests that our brains don't just store actions—they organize them relationally to optimize decision-making.
The findings challenge the classical divide between memory systems by showing that action planning engages both declarative memory and motor processes.
This integrated system allows humans to rapidly compare and select among many possible actions in complex environments.

Instead, recalling feelings associated with previous wins, can allow to shift the gears.

@janecoaston There are psychological effects in sports. When things go well, confidence increases, and a more relaxed mental state allows performance to flow with less thinking, feeding further success with an increasingly positive mental state, etc. The opponent experiences the opposite.
In order to succeed, you have to learn to "fail". In fact, the setbacks are not failures, - they are lessons to learn that will make you stronger.
