@goldsilverdig@QuincyEdmundLee Agreed the only problem is that the energy is not free, at least not with the UK approach where payment is made for every kWh produced and even more is paid if curtailed.
@QuincyEdmundLee If you have had to overbuild RE to improve availability then you have an awful lot of waste electricity that even at 50% round trip conversion could still be beneficial .
@whywouldthatbe@janrosenow Indeed. The efficiency metric that matters for most of us is how efficient the device is at converting money into heat. The wholesale price of gas in the UK is so much cheaper than electricity.
@BrunoVuan@xiaowang1984 You are saying Xiao thinks it is bad that rooftop solar is increasing rapidly in Puerto Rico. I don't think that is his position.
@KathrynPorter26@JillBelch Yes to expensive. Not sure how you say they are not generally good at keeping people warm given that you can throw money at that issue. Which brings us back to expensive.
@mgshanks The wholesale cost of gas varies between 2p and 3p per kWh. Yes it has been lower in the past and higher during the early Russian invasion of Ukraine. But honestly gas is not the driver of high UK electricity costs. You MUST know this already.
