@itsnotoveryet33@PicturesFoIder And yet, even with the amount of firearms in the USA at an all-time high, violent crime is at the lowest level since at least the late 1960s. Some say the early 1900s.
So yes, there are lots of crazies and creeps, but society has always had them. Today might be less dangerous.
@aloukissas@CalDigitSupport What kind of cables? I have found DisplayPort is another "standard" where not all cables are created equal. How good were the cables you tried? Which DP standard? What speeds were they advertised for?
I love how USB-C was supposed to be a universal standard, but there are different types of USB-C. There are USB-C cables that are "Thunderbolt Certified". And then, inside that, there are passive and active Thunderbolt cables. #ugh
Thank you to @CalDigitSupport for the assist!
@PcPhilanthropy GenX here. It was a .edu address around 1993, I think. I had to spool files to the VAX to attach them to emails. This was also around the time I was telnetting into a server in Australia, coding MUDs.
@itsme_urstruly If you said or did something stupid in public, you were far more likely to risk "immediate feedback" and, if you really messed up, "wall-to-wall counseling."
@EdLatimore You're not the first person I know to get the ban hammer out of the blue like this. The weird thing is, FB gives a near-zero explanation for why they are banning you. Meanwhile, my wife is a professional troll on FB. They literally pay her. *shrug* It's not much, but still.
@houlihan_rick This is why I look sideways at people who say AI replaces junior developers. Still need experience to look at the code, what it's doing, know when it's screwy, etc. If you're not going to train junior levels, you won't have the people who can validate. For now...
An interesting thread about a personality type on teams that are solid performers, but don't want the limelight. The stars who do, need these people. This personality type is usually the first to be cut with brutal HR policies.
This is why B players, 6s, the ones that are good in their current role and don’t want promotions/more and are very reliable and consistent matter.
Yet some of you terminate those people in an “up or out” company. They’re your glue, fam. They won’t ask more of you, don’t want more, and are happy being good at what you hired them for.
People on all sides of the spectrum are pissed that the majority of the divisive content on this app is from foreign agents.
If a few guys from a 3rd world country with an app can manufacture a culture war...
Imagine what people with real resources and influence are doing...
@randomrecruiter There were a TON of good people laid off this year from far better companies than PwC. They need to understand that the common denominator in all their failed recruiting efforts is them. Or they're going to have to allow remote workers and pull from more areas of the country.
@EdLatimore I also use AI to take something I have and ask it to "streamline and reduce the size by 30%." I don't usually take it verbatim, but it inspires what to get rid of. I find that doing this makes my writing more information-dense and more poignant.
