I suspect this is why the great cull is taking place.
The elite know there is a Carrington event coming - a pole shift and they do not wish to compete with any survivors for the remaining resources after the event has taken place
This also explains the rise in gold price and the bunkers being built.
I suspect this is also why they keep doing aggressive and panicky land grabs as they recalculate the areas they think will be affected the least.
