BREAKING: @AOC just completely went off on Trump after ICE murdered Alex Pretti.
"Donald Trump [is] accusing a Veteran Affairs ICU nurse (Alex Pretti) as being a terrorist against the United States. A man who was treating services members to our country, who was dedicating his life to serving Americans. Who in his final act on this earth was helping a woman pushed to the ground. And they are calling him a Domestic Terrorist, in order to defend their gross abuse of power, their absolute breaching of the law and in order to precipitate greater conflict."
Pretty amazing searchable aerial map by @surdex showing St. Louis before Friday and after Friday -- making clear the extent of the damage caused by the tornado that ripped through town that afternoon https://t.co/jGk7voznuB
What’s happened in St. Louis is nothing short of a disaster. The amount of destruction from Friday’s tornado is hard to comprehend. The photos and videos don’t do it justice. The damage, particularly in north St. Louis, may be something those neighborhoods never recover from.
The response from the community has been inspiring. It gives hope to people who have little else — no electricity, no shelter, no money, no idea what tomorrow will bring.
We are Americans. And days after the tornado, we are still looking for action from the federal government. This is what FEMA is for. St. Louis needs FEMA right now. Not next week or next month. Right now.
My block, like so many others, is still without power. The streets are cleared mostly because of the efforts of men, women and kids coming together to cut trees and move bricks and rooftops that had been blown into the roads.
People are frantically trying to get tarps up to cover the holes in their roofs before the next storm comes.
Those of us that do have insurance have been told adjusters can’t make it out till 10 or more days after the tornado. But most here are renters with no insurance at all. Left homeless with all their possessions destroyed.
If America is going to ever live up to its storied greatness, it has to do better than leaving its citizens to fend for themselves after natural disasters. This is what government is for.
A lot of people agreed with @realDonaldTrump when he said FEMA should be using resources on Americans in need instead of illegal immigrants. A lot of people believed the president when he said federal dollars shouldn’t be spent nation-building abroad and instead focus on rebuilding right here in America.
Here’s a chance to prove it. Right here in Missouri, the “Show-Me State”. Make us all believers and rebuild this American city.
The City of St. Louis has published an RFQ for consultants to help us develop a Citywide Transportation and Mobility Plan, the first such St. Louis Transportation Plan in decades. Responses from interested teams are due by August 25th: https://t.co/wtrZX1Vzbn
Today my brother made a video about how the patent on a drug for Tuberculosis should be expiring, but that Johnson and Johnson is extending with a legal loophole for four extra years.
As a result, experts estimate that six million people will die.

If you can occupy optimistic but dissatisfied, that's a great place to be.
People sometimes say I'm a polyanna, but I just keep seeing hard problems get solved by concerted human effort, and I've never seen them being solved by hopelessness so🤷

One thing I love about both Wave (past job) and Anthropic (current) is how much everyone who works here cares about the mission. I think it's easy to underrate how much of a difference this makes if you haven't worked in that kind of environment. Some ways it's different...
