Contrary to popular right wing belief, "work" is not inherently good or desirable. We work because it is required to obtain consumption. I love capitalism because it is the best way to get the most out of work with the least loss (before deontological arguments).

The end goal of capitalism is to create such wealth and such excess that we produce more than anyone can consume and the price of all goods decreases to nothing (post scarcity through automation) this is the natural state of supply side deflation. Arguments that posit that work is "required" or "good" inherently are either normative moral claims (fine and dandy if you believe men need to work to be fulfilled I tend to agree) that does not however mean that working for MATERIAL goods is required. A man can work on whatever he chooses when freed from the requirements of labor to survive. This is not an argument for communism. Communism is retarded and replaces price signals and efficiency with genocide and retards killing sparrows and causing famine.

We can and should kill work. We killed hunger much the same way. The going concern of humanity for 200,000 years was the next meal. In the span of 50 years from about 1950 to 2000 famine stopped being a thing outside of war zones and communist regimes. Capitalism did that. No one even noticed that no one in the first world thinks about "hunger" they had to redefine it to "food insecurity" to keep the welfare grift going. There is not a single person in the United States who starves to death from anything but willful neglect, abuse, or abandonment. This is NOT the norm for humanity. It never was but now it is taken for granted.

This is what will happen with subsistence work as well. Eventually Automation and the final industrial revolution will make "work" largely a prestige and reputation thing. Humans are basically insatiable so the economy will become one of reputation and exclusivity. We will forget we ever worked just as we forgot we were ever starving.

This is the future that is coming and it is thanks to capitalism.
